A temporary project URL can already serve visitors. To use a name such as www.example.com or example.com, add that hostname to the project and configure the DNS record shown in the panel. Do not change your nameservers or copy an IP address from a generic tutorial: each hosting platform can require a different target.
This guide covers a custom domain for a Hostbrid Projects deployment. It does not move your entire DNS zone. If you want Hostbrid to manage all records, including email, follow the DNS migration guide.
Before you start
Make sure the project already deploys and that you can edit DNS at the domain provider. You can register a new domain with Hostbrid or keep one at another registrar. You do not have to transfer the domain or change your email provider.
Projects gives each project a free address under .hostbrid.dev. A paid Sites plan is required for a custom domain; Starter is listed from €2.99 per month with monthly billing. Domain registration and renewal are charged separately. Check the current Projects plans before ordering because the displayed price and terms depend on the billing option.
If you do not own a domain yet, choose Buy a domain in the same tab, search for an available name and review its price before confirming. Hostbrid registers it, prepares the DNS zone and connects it to the project; the domain is billed once a year. If you registered it elsewhere, choose I already have one and follow the steps below.
Add a domain you already own
- Open the project in Projects and go to its Domains tab.
- Choose I already have one and enter the hostname you want to connect, such as
www.example.comorexample.com. - Select Add to project. The panel checks whether your plan supports the domain and displays its verification status.
- In the DNS dashboard at your registrar, create or update exactly the record shown by the panel. Use the hostname, record type and target it provides. Do not copy a value from another provider: a sample IP address or CNAME target could send visitors to the wrong site.
- Wait for the panel to detect the DNS change. Your
.hostbrid.devaddress remains available while verification is pending. Once the domain is verified, the panel requests an HTTPS certificate and updates its status.
DNS changes may not appear immediately. The delay depends on resolver caches and the TTL configured with your provider. If the status does not change, compare the saved record with the panel’s exact instructions and check for another conflicting record on the same hostname.
If your domain also handles email
Changing a website record does not require replacing the entire DNS zone. Keep your email MX records and the TXT records used by SPF, DKIM, DMARC or third-party verification. Do not change nameservers or delete mail records just to connect a website. If you want Hostbrid to manage the whole zone, first copy and check every record using the DNS and email guide.
After the domain is active, open the exact URL in a private window and confirm that the right project loads over HTTPS. If you use forms, login, payments or an external API, update their allowed domains and callback URLs too: those services may validate the site hostname as well as DNS.
A connected domain is not the same as an indexed website
DNS sends visitors to your project. It does not guarantee that Google has crawled or indexed the website. Once the site is ready, check its sitemap and page status in Search Console. Do not request indexing while you are still publishing a test version.
Keep the free subdomain while you are developing. When you need a branded address, compare the Projects plans and prices and connect the domain in the Domains tab. The Cursor publishing guide covers the step before that: moving code from the editor to a public URL.
